Jon Banks

Jon Banks specialises in early and Oriental string instruments, particularly the santur, qanun, and medieval harp. As a member of various groups, including The Burning Bush, The Dufay Collective and Sirinu, he has broadcast and toured throughout Europe, the Middle East and the Americas. Besides contributing to many CDs with these groups, he recently featured on Maddy Prior's CD, Seven for Old England. Other projects include collaborations with Joglaresa, Red Byrd and the Palestinian group, Al-Ashekeen. He is a regular performer and musical director at the Globe Theatre and moonlights as accordionist for the Tivoli Café Band. Jon lectures on Middle Eastern music at Anglia Ruskin University and recent publications include a book, The Instrumental Consort Repertory of the Fifteenth Century, and a chapter on the Renaissance for the forthcoming Cambridge History of Musical Performance.
